I’M NOT A CREATIVE
What kind of post is this you ask? The title sounds a bit odd. I know this. Here’s the thing though, photographers are oftentimes pigeonholed into a category. We are often labelled artists, creatives, and other titles of the sort. You know what I’m talking about here. Don’t get me wrong, there are so many photographers out there who really ARE artists, who really ARE creatives. This certainly is NOT a bad title to carry. They see things that others do not and they create and have a vision like no other. I envy them. I love their work. But it’s simply NOT me. I am not a creative.
My backstory – I majored in Philosophy and Religious studies for my undergrad. I didn’t know what I wanted to be when I grew up and loved those classes and so I majored in it. My husband still makes fun of me for majoring in philosophy. Jokes on him now, am I right? Additionally, I have a Masters Degree in Teaching and Curriculum Development. That’s all kind of boring.

Okay back to the I’m not a creative story. The fact is, I’m not. I’m not this person who grew up with a camera in her hand who followed everyone around documenting everything that every could possibly happen. I’m not that person. I am a person who is IN LOVE with love. I am a person who is IN LOVE with weddings. When Don and I first started dating, I had my own wedding profile on The Knot where I had my Reem Acra gown saved and my colors and flowers planned. I’m not sure if he knows that or not! I looooove reading about celebrity weddings, looking at the dresses, the details, reading the backstories. And so here I was a few years ago, a small photography business starting, and an opportunity to cover a wedding.
It was like all of my dreams came to life. So when I say I’m not a creative, in terms of photography, I’m not. I’m a romantic and photography is my outlet and with that, I’m in love with couples in love.
